Mark Cavendish, World Champion Cycling 2011

Mark Cavendish is the new World Champion Cyling on the road. After a high-speed race through Copenhagen, Denmark, and a nail-biting finish, the “Manx Missile” beat the other British top favourite Matthew Goss and André Greipel.

Mark Cavendish was very emotional after his victory. “For over three years, we’ve been working extremely hard to bring the jersey to Britain,” states the new World Champion. “We knew the stage in Copenhagen was a unique opportunity.”

“I’m so proud of my team. From start to finish, we controlled the race. This is their victory. It breaks my heart the other lads don’t get to wear the rainbow jersey. They did the hardest part, getting me into position for the sprint. I wouldn’t have won without them.”

The best sprinter of the world at the moment is extremely proud and exciting to wear the rainbow jersey a year long. “The rainbow jersey is the only one which you wear at all subsequent races for the next year. I’ll be starting next years’ Tour de France in the rainbow jersey. My next goal is Gold at the Olympics in London!”

Cavendish is Britain’s first road race World Champion in almost 50 years.  The last Brit to have won the legendary jersey was cycling legend Tommy Simpson in 1965.

Congrats Mark, our Compex Champion!

HTC-Highroad’s Mark Cavendish Claims First Tour de France Success of 2011

Britain’s Mark Cavendish has claimed his first stage win of the 2011 Tour, the 16th of his career in cycling’s biggest bike race. Cavendish’s victory, his fifth of 2011, came in a hotly disputed bunch sprint at the end of stage five from Carhaix to Cap Frehel ahead of Belgium’s Philippe Gilbert and Spain’s Jose Joaquin Rojas.

“I’m just passionate about my sport, I love to win and the team gave it everything today to make sure I could get to the line first,” Cavendish said, “There are a lot of difficult finishes this year and not so many bunch sprints, so I had to make sure I got this one, I had to be resilient.”

“On top of that I’ve had some difficult starts to the big Tours, that was only different in 2009, but that’s just my character, not something to get obsessed with.”

“We put every other race on the backfoot to be sure we’re in top condition for the Tour and that paid off today, that’s why we win.”

Cavendish has now taken twenty-six Grand Tour stage wins, including two stages of the Giro in 2011, as well sixty-seven wins on the road since turning pro in 2007. The HTC-Highroad men’s squad has racked up forty-one victories this season alone, making it the most successful WorldTour team of 2011.

HTC-Highroad’s Matt Goss wins Milan – San Remo! The biggest win of his career!

After 298 kilometers the Australian outsprinted a group of eight riders in the streets of San Remo to claim the victory ahead of Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland and Belgium’s Philippe Gilbert.

“I knew I’d been going well, I knew I could get a good result, but actually to get the win is  incredible.” Goss said.

“I knew Gilbert was dangerous and would try for an attack on the Poggio [climb], so I rode across to that front group just as we reached the top, and once I was with them I knew I was in with a chance.”

“It was an advantage knowing the route. I live nearby and I’ve trained over the Poggio a few times in the last few days just to check it again.”

“The descent was fast, but it wasn’t too tricky because fortunately it wasn’t wet, and with 500 meters to go I just gave it everything I had and hoped for the best.”

Goss has had a spectacular 2011 season thus far, with stage victories in the Tour Down Under, the  Tour of Oman, and most recently in Paris-Nice. Milan-San Remo is his eighth win of the year so far.

“It’s been absolutely incredible,” Goss said, “I couldn’t have dreamed up a better start to the year.”

Following Mark Cavendish’s win in 2009, this is HTC-Highroad’s second victory in three years in Milan-San Remo, one of cycling’s top five biggest one-day races.

TEAM HTC-HIGHROAD’S GOSS TAKES SIXTH WIN OF THE SEASON

San Luis Obispo, California – 16th February, 2011 – HTC-Highroad’s Matt Goss has claimed his sixth win of the season after clinching the bunch sprint from a front group of around 40 riders in stage two of the Tour of Oman.

After triumphs in the Jayco Bay Classics series, the Cancer Council Classic and the opening stage of the Tour Down Under in Australia, Goss’s latest victory in the Middle East also enables the young sprinter to move into the overall lead.

“The last kilometre was quite tough there, slightly uphill and a little bit harder than I was expecting,” Goss said, “but I managed to hold on fine, it suited me well, having to accelerate out of the last corner.

“I tried to stay on the first five or ten wheels on the climb close to the finish today, it split about half-way up, and it split again over the top, but then it all came back together a little bit.

“We had five guys in the front group, they looked after me til the last kilometre, then [Hayden] Roulston did a turn on the front to keep the speed high and I sat in a little way further behind and waited for my moment.

“It’s great for the team, we came here wanting to get at least a stage win, now we can concentrate on seeing what we can do for the overall.”

On Wednesday’s flat stage, Goss says that HTC-Highroad will be looking for another bunch sprint win, “either with me or with Mark Cavendish. We’ll wait and see. But it’s nice to have the jersey for now.”

“It’s been a great start to the season for me, but I hope to keep it going right to the end of the year.”

Fight muscular pains in your lower back with Compex!

If you are suffering from low back pain, you are definitely not alone! Today it is the most frequently encountered pain and the number even grows each day. The reason is that the low back region is under constant and particular strain. In a standing position, the entire weight of the trunk is concentrated on the joints between the last vertebrae and the sacrum. The discs between the vertebrae are therefore crushed, making the low back muscles feel contractured and painful.

At Compex, we have therefore designed a specific programme, the ‘Compex Low back pain programme,’ that shows substantial improvement of your low back pain and can even resolve the problem if it is essentially a muscular problem.

If you follow the programme on a daily basis two to three weeks, you should feel significant improvements and less pain. For optimal results, try to do 2 sessions per day, separated by at least 10 minutes rest.

You can find the programme under ‘Pain Relief’ on your Compex mi-SPORT, Performance mi-READY, mi-FITNESS and Vitality. Athletes using the Compex Runner can access the Low Pack Pain programme under pain relief. If you have an Energy mi-READY, a FIT, you can use the Chronic Pain/ Endorphinic programme (under Health).

Testimonial: NY Marathon preparations!

Paul is 38. He’s been running for 10 years. However, the New York Marathon was still on his target list. Paul explains how he prepared for this legendary event.

The biggest marathon in the world requires serious training!

The New York Marathon is a mythical event. I’d already run 9 marathons and 2 “Marathons des Sables” (Sand Marathons), but whenever anyone said, “What about New York?” I had to say “Not yet”… So I decided to do it with my running club. If you want to take part on your own it’s really difficult and you end up being part of a lottery because there are so many people wanting to do it. Two million spectators lining the route and over 315 million television viewers across the world! That is frankly impressive.
My aim was to do it in 3 hours. I developed my own training
schedule over 9 weeks. During the first two weeks, I mostly worked on my speed in track sessions, five days a week doing interval training: 800m at full speed followed by 400m jogging. Ten times in a row! One of these 5 sessions lasted over 3 hours to prepare my body for that famous marathon “wall”.

I used two devices as support: a heart rate monitor to check my heart rate and my Compex with its “recovery” function, which I used after each major run. I also used my stimulator on other occasions: when I felt a weakness in my ankle, I didn’t want to take any risks, and so replaced one training session with an hour of muscle training using my Compex.
